On a northbound driving trip through Alabama we stopped in at this unassuming place for a bite (so as to avoid the usual fare at typical roadside fast food chains). In so doing we met the mayor, the police chief and a retired journalist having lunch together at one of the tables. What ensued was a conversation for the ages -- and some 100% delicious food from the amazingly friendly owners. What a great decision to stop by. The experience left us in such a great mood the rest of the day. Very much recommend.

Great little downtown diner! The lunch special was inexpensive, with generous portions. My ground steak lunch special was delicious. Definitely a hidden gem (especially given the limited selections in this small town).

I love The City Cafe in Centreville. I’ve been there many times over the years. It’s always a difficult choice for me between the fried pork chops, catfish fillets or the made to order chicken livers. Why? Because they’re all just so good! There’s also a daily lunch special in addition to the regular menu options. If you’re looking a great tasting home cooked meal, at a reasonable price, in a friendly setting, with good local folks, then look no further. The City Cafe in uptown Centreville, Alabama is your place. Do as I do when I'm in the area, check them out and see for yourself.

Excellent food. I had the hamburger steak. The portion size was solid and it was seasoned well. Definitely suggest getting a fried pie (peach). Judging by the signs they excel at breakfast.

It is what has disappeared from most small towns. People are friendly, food is really good, service is good, and they treat you like they have known you your entire life.
